Islands located in europe i would like to visit

Hello there,

I made a little list of some of the most beautiful islands in Europe and maybe in the world, read the Info and who knows....maybe you'll visit there....I hope i'll do!!!

Sardinia

One of the two large islands that lie of the western (Mediterranean) coast of Italy, Sardinia is much less explored and far emptier than its southern neighbour Sicily. Marooned between Italy and north Africa, it lies some 200km off the coast of Lazio. At its northern tip it gazes just a few miles across the water to the French island of Corsica.

A must sees:

The nuraghi - the mysterious prehistoric cone-shaped buildings pepper the island. There are more than 700 of them, with the Nuraghe Su Nuraxi one of the largest and most impressive.

Nora - archaeological site with Roman and Carthaginian remains slowly being uncovered. Much of the original Nora is under the Mediterranean, but baths, a theatre and mosaics have been uncovered.

Cagliari - since the days of Rome the capital of the island of Sardinia. A marvellous confusion of little lanes leading away from the old port. There are Roman remains, including an amphitheatre, a fine cathedral and archaeological museum.

The Barbagia - mountainous inland region where the Sards would take shelter from the endless waves of invaders that beset this island for millennia. A marvellous mix of forested hillsides and meadows and peppered with isolated hamlets.

It is the smallest island of the Balearic archipelago. In contrast to the clubbing atmosphere at the nearby Ibiza, Formentera is calm and ideal for family holidays. What attract people to that virgin island are picturesque shores with sandy beaches, the smell of pine forests and waters that are cleanest in the Mediterranean. The landscape of Formentera is decorated with two salt lakes located in the north of the island.(link)
Formentera can only be reached by boat from Ibiza, but this inaccessibility makes it a peaceful place where you can flee from stress and overcrowding. The island is flat and sandy with magnificent, unspoilt beaches. There are a few places where the land rises to present spectacular cliffs to the sea. It is perfect for cycling, walking, snorkelling and sailing. Its cultural attractions include some megalithic sites, a roman road, some watch-towers (18th century), the 18th century chapel of Sant Francesc Xavier and a small Ethnological museum.(link)

Situated in the middle of the Atlantic, off the coast of Europe, the nine islands of the Azores is home to a variety of landscapes and spectacular volcanic scenery. They are a popular destination for whale watching and for travelers who enjoy having one of the most offbeat travel experiences in Europe, walking and appreciating nature.(link)

Fuerteventura

Fuerteventura is one of the lesser known Canary Islands and it lies just to the south of Lanzarote. In fact it is so close that a day trip between one and the other is perfectly feasible and can make an interesting day out, whether you are travelling from Fuerteventura to Lanzarote, or vice versa.
There are many new attractions inviting tourists to discover different aspects of the Island's landscape and culture such as the Betancuria Museum of Archaeology and Ethnography and Tefia Craft Village to name but a few.

Mljet

Mljet is the first larger island one come upon while sailing the Croatian Adriatic from the direction from south to north. Mljet is Croatia's greenest island with its Mediterranean vegetation, clear and clean sea, gentle sandy shoreline and a wealth of underwater sea life. Mljet is conisdered to be one of the most beautiful of the Croatian islands too.(link)

Sicily

Sicily is the largest Italian Island, separated from the continent by the Strait of Messina and lapped by the Ionian, the Tyrrhenian and the Mediterranean Seas.
It is one of the pearls of Southern Italy and can be discovered, understood and experienced through a series of itineraries dedicated to all tastes ranging from nature to history and tradition.(link)
