Balos beach, Crète
Balos beach is a beach that is situated all the way in the north-west of Crete on the Gramvousa peninsula. You can reach Balos Beach in two ways. One way to get to Balos Beach is by car over a (not very good) road. You have to drive slowly, and the last part of the route is not suitable for cars. You'll still have to walk a an hour and a half before you're on the beach and back the hike lasts a little longer because you must climb up. Easier it is to go to the beach of Balos by boat from Kissamos. View the Gramvousa page where the trip by boat is described. The boat from Kissamos makes a day trip to the island Gramvousa and then goes to the beach of Balos.

The best-known beach on this island is "Platja de S'Alga", which is very large taking into account the size of the island and is considered a natural harbour because of its closed shape.
Papagayo beach, Lanzarote
This collection of natural beaches to the east of Playa Blanca are in an area protected from development. Playas de Papagayo conceal the most beautiful natural beaches in Lanzarote, which slope gently towards a crystal clear sea.
Zlatni Rat, Croatia
This golden pebble beach also known as Golden Horn has the ability to change shape and position depending on wind directions. This is truly unique in its own way and many tourists flock from different parts of the world only to see it change shapes.
Smuggler’s Cove, Zakynthos
The Ionian island of Zakynthos (or Zante) has its fair share of remote beaches.
Set off on a mini-adventure to the most secluded of them all, Smuggler’s Cove. There are boats and private charters circling south to the cove – allowing plenty of time for turtle-spotting on the way.
Calgary Bay, Island of Mull, Scotland
Situated at the north-west corner of the beautiful and accessible Isle of Mull, Calgary Bay is known to many as one of the finest beaches in Scotland - and, some would add, in the world! The bay is home to a small but vibrant island community, as well as to a dazzling, but vulnerable, array of flora and fauna. Not surprisingly, Calgary is a highly popular destination for visitors to Mul.
